Biographical Files

The Biographical Files contain newspaper articles, obituaries, research notes, copies of documents, and other materials relating to Marion County families and individuals. For some of these files, there are corresponding geneaologies and family trees.

The Marion County Historical Society appreciates the efforts of the many volunteers who have helped research and compile these files.


Cemeteries

The Cemeteries Files contain newspaper articles, research notes, copies of documents, and other materials relating to some Marion County cemeteries.

There may be some biographical information about individuals buried in cemeteries, but this data is generally placed in the Biographical Files


Maps

Maps provide direction and information about the landscape. Maps have been produced to show transportation routes, property ownership, building location, environmental characteristics, and other purposes.

The historical society has a variety of maps and bird's-eye views of Marion County, especially Salem. These materials, some of which are copies, were produced beginning in the 1870s.

There is no inventory of these maps. If you would like to look at a map, please indicate the area, date and purpose of the map you are looking for.

The Marion County Historical Society has a collection of more than 200,000 images and negatives that show buildings, businesses, environment, government, sports, technology, and transportation of Marion County. Some of these photographs have been cataloged and are available to researcher.
