Manuscripts

People - as individuals or as families, groups, and institutions - record their activities in letters, photographs, diaries, minutes and other documents. These materials are called manuscripts. They fall into two broad categories. Manuscripts created by individuals and families are usually referred to as personal papers; those created by groups and institutions, such as businesses, organizations and agencies, are generally called organizational records.

Organizational Records

Churches, businesses, political organizations, community groups, government agencies, voluntary associations, professional associations and other groups produce documents that describe their purposes, policies, procedures and activities. These materials are useful for studying the organization's history, as well as understanding its community, personnel, products and times. These records often include minutes, reports, published materials such as newsletters and catalogs, annual reports, financial and legal papers, and photographs.

The historical society's identified holdings are listed below by town and city name (with range of dates if known)(and an asterisk if an inventory exists). In addition, historical files may contain some organizational records.
